Itinerário

Day 1: Cusco - Pisca q'uchu (Km 82) - Wuayllabamba (prairie - green place).

Walking time (approx 4:30 to 5 hours)

The day starts early, between 06:15 and 07:00, with the collection of passengers from their hotels in Cusco. We will cross the villages of Yucay, Urubamba, etc. and after 3 hours by bus we will arrive at km 82 (2600m / 8528ft). At this point, where the first control is located, all tourists must register to be able to start the walk. From this place, 42 kilometers of mountains, Andean valleys, rivers and tropical forests separate us from Machu Picchu. On our way to our first camp in the village of Wuayllabamba, the first part of the walk is mainly flat, with slight ascents and will take approximately 2 and a half hours until we reach the archaeological group of Llactapata (city in the highest). Then we will continue towards the valley of the river Kusichaca, from where the route follows a slight ascent until the camp of Wuayllabamba, located at 3100 meters (10168 feet). LB, D.

Day 2: Wuayllabamba Camp - Pacasmayu Camp.

Walking time (approx 5 to 6 hours)

After breakfast, we started our second day considered by many trekkers the most difficult since it is essential to make an ascent of 1100 meters to the highest point of the whole circuit, Warmihuañusca ("dead women") passes 4200m (13776ft) . The slow climb will take approximately 4 ½ and 5 hours. From the pass, we can enjoy an amazing view of the surroundings and the magnificent landscape. This is a windy area, so it is important to wear warm clothing. Overtaking the pass, we continue our way to Pacasmayu Camp, located at 3500m (11480 feet). B, LB, D)

Day 03: Pacasmayu - Runkuracay - Phuyupatamarca - Wiñayhuayna:

Walking time (approx 6 to 7 hours)

The third day, besides being the longest, is also the most interesting. It starts with an ascent of an hour and a half to the Raccay Runku's Pass located at a height of 3950m (12916 feet). On the descent, we will visit the interesting ruins known as Runkuracay (oval building) at 3800m (12464 feet). After passing the pass, the rest of the way is a descent to the interesting ruins of Sayacmarca located at 3600 meters. In Inca times, this place was used as a checkpoint for the roads that connect to Machu Picchu. Then, through a beautiful cloud forest, we will continue until the passage of Phuyupatamarca ("city above the clouds") at 3670m (12038ft).
